AAA: Hawai‘i Gas Prices Drop For Eighth Week
Gas price declines of up to 12 cents a gallon continued around the islands for the eighth week, according to the AAA Hawaiʻi Weekend Gas Watch.
Today’s average price was $3.68 in Kahului and Wailuku on Maui, which is 12 cents lower than as last Thursday and 32 cents lower than on this date last month. Compared to a year ago, Kahului gas is three cents higher and Wailuku gas is eight cents lower than on this date a year ago.
“While gas prices in the western US are still expensive, compared to other parts of the nation, they are decreasing with California, Hawaiʻi, Washington, Oregon and Nevada averages moving lower on the week. Hawaiʻi (-6 cents) and Washington (-6 cents) saw the largest drops,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaiʻi general manager. “Market observers will look for indications that OPEC’s global pact with large non-OPEC crude producers to reduce crude production for the first half of 2019 will help reduce the growing global glut of crude. In turn, this could drive up crude oil prices and, subsequently, gas prices.”
Today’s statewide average price is $3.34 a gallon, which is six cents lower than last Thursday, 30 cents lower than a month ago and five cents more than a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.
In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular is $3.20, which is seven cents lower than last Thursday, 29 cents lower than on this date a month ago and eight cents higher than on this date last year.
The Hilo average price is $3.37, which is down two cents from last Thursday, 30 cents less than on this date last month and 10 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
Līhue’s average price for regular is $3.55, which is eight cents lower than last Thursday, 32 cents lower than on this date last month and three cents more than a year ago.
