Pedestrian Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries, Struck by Car in Kahului

A 55-year-old woman suffered critical life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car while walking across Puʻunēnē Avenue within a marked crosswalk, police said.

The incident was reported at around 6:43 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019.

According to police reports, the collision occurred on Puʻunēnē Avenue at the intersection of East Hawaiʻi Street in Kahului.

Police say the collision occurred as a 2003 Nissan Sentra four-door sedan was traveling northbound on Puʻunēnē Avenue when it collided with the woman who was walking across Puʻunēnē Avenue in the crosswalk.

The pedestrian was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center for further care.

Police say the involvement of speed, drugs and alcohol are still pending as the investigation is ongoing.
