Maui MMA Fighters Do Well in X-1 World Events #51
Maui fighters did well at the X-1 World Events #51 “One to Remember” held over the weekend at the Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu. The event featured 11 pro MMA fights in front of a crowd of 1,500 with some fights broadcast live on Facebook.
In the main event, Rodney Mondala was declared the winner by TKO in the 2nd round against Taiki Tsuchiya of Japan. Mondala took home the event’s Bantamweight (135lb) title.
In the co-main event, Koa Corpuz won by knockout in the 2nd round against Suguru Nii of Japan in the 155lb division. Corpuz, of Maui, became the new X1 World Lightweight Champion with a knockout head kick, defeating the defending champion in devastating fashion.
Maui’s Analu Mattos defeated Jace Kaopua on the Main Card via TKO, due to strikes on the ground in the 3rd round. Mattos earns the vacant X1 Lightweight (155lb) State Title.
Also on the Main Card, Maui’s Tiani Valle defeated seasoned veteran fighter Andy Nguyen of Louisiana by KO at 1 minute, 29 seconds into the 1st round. The 115lb Pro fight was the only women’s bout of the night.
In the Under Card, Maui’s Pololu Nakanelua beat Thomas Mathias by TKO in the second round due to strikes on the ground in the 135lb Bantamweight Pro bout.
