Kīhei Charter School is in the process of installing solar panels.
The panels are part of a 1,250 panel system that is being installed over the schools pavilion, parking lot and on the flat roof of the school building.
Once wiring is complete, the solar panels will be connected to the Maui Electric power grid.
An estimated 90% of peak power for the new school will be generated by solar panels.
The system is slated to be operational by the end of February.
