Kayaker Rescued After Vessel Takes on Water

A kayaker is safe after the vessel he was in began taking on water on Monday morning outside the Kīhei Boat Ramp.

The incident was reported at around 7:46 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 28, 2019.

The Maui Fire Department’s Ladder 14 responded to the incident along with personnel from the Coast Guard.

The kayaker was located approximately a half-mile outside of the boat ramp, according to Maui Fire Services Chief Rylan Yatsushiro.

Coast Guard personnel safely brought the individual to shore without further incident.  No medical attention was required.
