Upcountry residents can expect road closures for roadway reconstruction projects in Haʻikū and Makawao beginning Monday, Feb. 4, the Maui County Department of Public Works announced Friday.

The first road closure will be on Kokomo Road from the intersection of Haʻikū Road to the 1700 block of Kokomo. Work is scheduled to run from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, with some work possible on weekends. The target date for completion is Feb. 17.

Detour signs will be set up to direct motorists to alternate routes. All work will be done weather permitting.

Upon completion of work on Kokomo Road, the project contractor will proceed to work on Makawao Avenue from its intersection with Kokomo Road to the vicinity of Piʻiholo Road and St. Joseph Church.

The roadway reconstruction projects are part of a $4.7 million job with contractor Hi-Built.
