MACC to Host Maui Debut of Jacob Jonas The Company
The Maui Arts & Cultural Center will present the Maui debut performance of the Los Angeles-based Jacob Jonas The Company. The performance will be held in the Castle Theater on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.
According to the MACC, the dance company is currently celebrating its fifth season, and is quickly gaining international acclaim and recognition for mixing contemporary ballet, breakdance, and acrobatic movement. The company is composed of a diverse cast that presents a wide range of original works.
The companyʻs namesake and founder, Jacob Jonas, created two original pieces just last year. The first, “Transfer,” tells the story of a couple moving together from one place to another, having no emotional residence. The other is called “To the Dollar” and it pays tribute to Elizabeth Warrenʻs speech for equal pay for women.
The Company earned a spot on the Los Angeles Timesʻ “12 Standout Companies of 2018.” Dance Magazine also named the group one of “25 to Watch” last year. The company has also partnered with numerous reputable art organizations in the past, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the New York City Ballet.
In addition to their performance, the company will also host a master class on Wednesday, Feb. 27 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the MACCʻs Omori Room A. The workshop will focus on teaching intermediate to advanced dancers a versatile skill set, including breakdance, contemporary ballet, partnering, and acrobatic techniques. Anyone interested in participating must be high school aged or older and must register in advance.
Tickets for the companyʻs Castle Theatre performance cost $35, or $45 plus applicable fees. Workshop tickets cost $10. Both tickets are available for purchase in person at the MACC Box Office, by phone at 808-242-SHOW, or online.
