Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck by Car in Wailea

A Motor Vehicle Collision occurred on Wailea Alanui Drive just north of Malukai Lane in Wailea on Monday, March 4, 2019, at about 12:15 a.m.

The collision occurred as a male pedestrian was walking within the northbound lanes of Wailea Alanui Drive when he was struck by a Toyota sedan traveling in the same direction.

The operator of the Toyota, a 64-year-old woman from Kīhei, did not sustain any injuries from the collision. She was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. He has since been identified as 41-year-old James Mallobox of Kīhei.

The road was closed for about five hours as police conducted their investigation.

The involvement of speed, drugs and alcohol have yet to be determined as the investigation is on-going. Anyone who may have witnessed or might have information about this incident is asked to call Officer Jun Hattori at (808)244-6363 or (808)244-6400.

This is Maui County’s seventh traffic fatality for 2019 as compared to one at this time last year.
