The House Committee on Economic Development & Business heard resolutions urging Maui County to immediately ban “predatory cosmetics stores” from doing business in Lahaina.

HR78 and HCR80 were introduced by Representative Angus L.K. McKelvey (West Maui, Mā‘alaea, North Kīhei).

The resolutions seek to address resident and visitor complaints and the cosmetics vendors’ alleged violations of a settlement agreement with Maui County regarding what critics have called “aggressive sales practices.”

The committees recommended the resolutions be passed with amendments and the items have since been recommended for referral to the House Committee on Consumer Protection and Commerce.
