Patient Airlifted After 30-Foot Fall at Kaihalulu

A visitor was airlifted from East Maui’s Kaihalulu “Red Sand” Beach on Monday, after falling 30 feet down a cliff and landing on rocks near the shoreline.

Fire officials say the 56-year-old woman suffered multiple injuries including scrapes over much of her body, at least one broken bone and a shoulder injury.

She was airlifted to the Hāna Ball Park and then transferred via medevac to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for further care.

The incident was reported shortly after 4 p.m., and crews left the scene just before 5:30 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2019.

A fire crew and an ambulance from Hāna responded, along with the rescue company from Kahului aboard the department’s Air 1 helicopter.
