Kahului Temperature Hits Record for Fourth Time in Five Days

By Wendy Osher

For the fourth time in five days, a record setting temperature was set in Kahului, according to data compiled by the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service reports that the temperature at Kahului Airport on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, reached 96 degrees, breaking the old record of 92 degrees set for that day in 2014.

This comes on the heels of a three consecutive days of record setting temperatures from Saturday through Monday.

Today’s Kahului forecast calls for sunny skies. The NWS reports that temperatures are expected to fall to around 83 by 5 p.m., but we can expect to see heat index values as high as 98 degrees. Winds will be blowing from the east at around 11 mph.

Forecasters from the NWS are forecasting warm and humid conditions to continue “with some relief as the winds shift east through the Memorial Day weekend.”
