Sailboat Breaks Loose From Mooring in Lahaina
Emergency crews helped the owner of a sailboat tow the vessel away from a seawall near Kamehameha Iki Park in Lahaina, after it broke free from its mooring on Sunday afternoon.
The incident was reported at 3:36 p.m. on Sunday, June 16, 2019 south of Lahiana Harbor.
Fire crews along with Ocean Safety personnel aboard Jet Skis assisted the owner by towing the 25-foot sailboatv away from the seawall.
Crews responding included fire personnel from Engine 3, Jet Ski 3, Jet Ski 11 and personnel with the Department of Land and Natural Resources.
Fire officials say there was 3- to 4-foot “medium surf” with clear conditions and light winds at the time of the incident.
Crews left the scene at 5:15 p.m.
According to department reports, the owners of the vessel are Maui residents.
