10th Consecutive Day of Record Heat in Hawai‘i

For the 10th consecutive day, temperatures have either tied or broken records at various locations across the state.

Here on Maui, a record high temperature of 94 degrees was set in Kahului on Sunday, June 23, 2019, breaking the old record of 90 degrees, set for the same day in 1980.

On Saturday, a record breaking temperature was also set in Kahului, where the 93 degree temperature broke the old record of 91 degrees set for the same day, also in 1980.

Below is a list of record temperatures that were set or tied in recent days:

  • Sunday, June 23, 2019, a record high temperature of 94 degrees was set in Kahului, breaking the old record of 90 degrees set for that day in 1980.
  • Saturday, June 22, 2019, a record high temperature of 93 degrees was set in Kahului, breaking the old record of 91 degrees set for that day in 1980. Also on Saturday, the 87 degree temperature in Līhue, Kauaʻi tied the old record set for the same day in 1981.
  • Friday, June 21, 2019, a record high temperature of 88 degrees was tied at Hilo, Hawaiʻi, with the old record of 88 degrees set in 1969.
  • Thursday, June 20, 2019, a record high temperature of 90 degrees was tied at Honolulu, Oʻahu, with the old record of 90 degrees set in 2018.
  • Wednesday, June 19, 2019, a record high temperature of 92 degrees was set at Honolulu, Oʻahu, breaking the old record of 91 degrees set in 1987.
  • Tuesday, June 18, 2019, a record high temperature of 91 degrees was set at Honolulu, Oʻahu, breaking the old record of 90 degrees set in 1995. Also on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, a record high temperature of 92 degrees was tied at Kahului, Maui, with the old record of 92 degrees set in 1969.
  • Monday, June 17, 2019, a record high temperature of 87 degrees was set at Hilo, Hawaiʻi, breaking the old record of 86 degrees set for the same day in 1995.  Also on Monday, June 17, 2019, a record high temperature of 90 degrees was tied at Honolulu, Oʻahu, with the old record set for the same day in 1995.  And in Kahului, a record high temperature of 94 degrees was set, breaking the old record of 93 degrees set for the same day in 1953.
  • Sunday, June 16, 2019, a record high temperature of 89 degrees was tied at Honolulu, Oʻahu, matching the old record of 89 degrees set for the same day in 2005.
  • Saturday, June 15, 2019, a record high temperature of 91 degrees was set at Honolulu, Oʻahu, breaking the old record of 90 degrees set for the same day in 2018.
  • Friday, June 14, 2019, a record high temperature of 90 degrees was tied at Honolulu, Oʻahu, with the old record of 90 degrees set for the same day in 2018.

Due to the dry weather Maui County officials urged Upcountry and Central Maui residents to cut back on their water usage. Local farmers said the dry season started earlier than usual this year and could affect their crops.
