Tourist Reports Being Robbed in Ke‘anae

A 37-year-old woman from Canada reported that she was robbed by a suspect while sitting in her rental vehicle, which was parked on the shoulder of the Hāna Highway in Keʻanae on Sunday morning.

The incident was reported to have occurred at around 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2019 near the Keʻanae Arboretum.

The woman reportedly told police that she was waiting for family members, when a male wearing a hooded sweatshirt and bandana over his face entered an open door.

The male suspect allegedly demanded her belongings, punched her face and took her phone and bag, according to police.

The male suspect allegedly got into a waiting white pickup truck and fled towards Hāna.

The visitor reported that there may have been two males and one female in the truck, but she did not have a detailed description of the individuals within.

Police say the woman suffered minor injuries as a result of being punched.
