Visitor Pulled Unresponsive From Waters in Mākena, Maui

A visitor from China was pulled unresponsive from waters at Oneloa “Big Beach” in Mākena on Wednesday evening.

The incident was reported at 7:21 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2019.

Maui Battalion Chief 1, M. Werner, said the 65-year-old man was pulled unresponsive, with no pulse from the ocean and responding crews conducted CPR.

Authorities say ocean conditions at the time included high surf at the location.

Firefighters from the Engine 14 in Wailea responded.
