Special Committee on “Climate Crisis” to Meet
US Senator Brian Schatz of Hawai‘i will convene a hearing on Wednesday to discuss climate action at the local level.
The Senate Democrats’ Special Committee on the Climate Crisis, which Schatz chairs, will hear from mayors of five US cities who will discuss local efforts to cut carbon pollution and become more resilient to the impacts of climate change.
They will also discuss the role the federal government can play in helping cities achieve their clean energy goals.
“This hearing is about what cities across the country are doing to fight climate change,” Chairman Schatz said. “By bringing together our country’s mayors, we can understand how our cities are taking action against climate change and how the federal government can help.”
In addition to Schatz, members of the committee include US Senators Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Tina Smith (D-Minn.).
