Maui Little League Team Advances in World Series After 6-0 Win

The Central East Maui Little League team from Wailuku, Maui defeated Elizabeth, N.J. today in a 6-0 victory, advancing for a second time in the World Series event taking place this week in Williamsport, Pa.
The game started on Saturday, but was called off because of lightning and rain at the end of the 4th inning, with Central East Maui holding a 6-0 lead. The Maui team held on to that lead when the game resumed at 7 a.m. HST today.
The Maui team advances to play the Southeast Region team, South Riding, Va., in a game scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Aug. 21. The Southeast team is also undefeated so far in the tournament with two wins under their belt.
The winner of Wednesday’s game will advance to play in the US Final on Saturday; with the winner of the US Final securing a spot in the World Series title game on Sunday, Aug. 26.
In the international bracket, the Asia-Pacific region’s South Chungcheong KOR faces Chofu City of Japan in a Wednesday game set to take place at (6:30 a.m. HST or 12:30 p.m. ET on ABC).
The double-elimination tournament features 16 teams from around the world. The age cap this year means there’s no teenagers on the roster, only 11- and 12-year-olds playing for the tournament title.
The team from Wailuku Maui advanced to the Little League World Series after winning the West Regional Title on Aug. 10, in San Bernardino, California.
The 2019 Little League World Series will continue through Aug. 26 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
