The 49th Maui Marathon is Just Around the Corner
Mauiʻs largest sporting event, the Maui Marathon, will be held on Oct. 13.
In its 49th year, the race will have a new starting line at the historic Sugar Mill off Hansen Road in Waikapū.
“Runners will enjoy this new start area as they get ready for their 26.2-mile journey to Kāʻanapali,” Co-Race Director Jim Lynch said.
“We are extremely honored to start the event at such a prestigious location that is rich in Maui culture and history.”
Maui Marathonʻs route is the only certified USA Track & Field Boston Marathon qualifying course on the island.
The event will include a full marathon, a four-person team relay, half-marathon, as well as a 10k and 5k race.
Starting times for the races will vary. The marathon and marathon relay will start at 5 a.m. from the Sugar Mill.
The half-marathon will start at 5:30 a.m., the 10K will begin at 5:45 a.m., and the 5K will start at 6 a.m. All of these races will start on Kaanapali Parkway in front of the Kāʻanapali Beach Hotel.
Peter Sagal, the host of a popular NPR news quiz show, will be running the full marathon and will speak at the marathon expo on Oct. 12.
Sagal is running to raise funds for “Chicago Run,” a non-profit organization that helps disadvantaged kids experience the benefits of running in his hometown of Chicago
