The Maui Police Department announced this afternoon that the former boyfriend of Moriera “Mo” Monsalve was arrested in California today.

The FBI Violent Offenders Task Force and the Sacramento Police Department arrested Bernard Brown in Sacramento for 2nd degree murder. Monsalve has been missing since Jan. 12, 2014.

According to earlier police reports, authorities stated that Moreira “Mo” Monsalve, 46, was last seen at around 10 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at her ex-boyfriend’s residence in Wailuku.  She was earlier seen at the University of Hawaii Maui College campus where she had attended a meeting with her son, but failed to return to pick him up.

Through investigation, the woman’s vehicle was later recovered by detectives on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014.

According to a Maui County press release, a Maui grand jury indicted Brown for the murder of Monsalve today, Sept. 20, 2019. Brown’s bail has been set at $1,000,000.
