Injured Man Rescued From Haleakalā Crater

A man was recovered from the Hōlua Cabin at the Haleakalā National Park early this morning.

The man reportedly activated an emergency beacon seeking assistance in the Haleakalā Crater.

National Park Service and Maui Fire Department personnel began search efforts upon receiving the request.

Rescue crews located the man, who is reported to be in his 30ʻs, near the cabin.

According to a press release from the NPS, the man was unable to walk and showed signs of altitude sickness and severe dehydration.

The man was evacuated in an MFD helicopter.
