The Department of Water Supply is asking residents in Kaunakakai and Kawela on Molokaʻi to conserve water until mid-November.

The request comes as the department prepares to replace a pump and motor at the Kualapuʻu Well next Monday. The department is expecting the work to continue through next month.

According to the department, the existing pump and motor were last replaced over 11 years ago.

“Replacement of the pump and motor is preventative maintenance,” the department stated in a press release.

“If a pump failure were to happen, replacing the pump and motor could take eight weeks.”

During the shut down, the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands will supply water to the county system from its two wells.
