A 59-year-old Colorado man was medevaced from DT Fleming Beach in Honokahua on Maui after being pulled from the water with a possible spinal injury.

The incident was reported at around 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019.

Fire officials say the man was observed going “over the falls” in the shore break.

Ocean Safety personnel found the man found face down.  “Upon assessment, the victim exhibited symptoms of spinal injury, but was reportedly alert and oriented once on shore,” said Maui Fire Services Chief Rylan Yatsushiro.

Personnel treated and packaged the man for transport. He was taken by ambulance to Nāpili Park where Maui Medevac flew to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in serious condition.

Authorities say the ocean conditions were approximately 4 to 6 feet in the shore break area at the time of the incident.
