Dance Performance to Highlight ‘Interdependent Nature of Our World’

Native American choreographer Rosy Simas is returning to Maui to present her newest dance project, “Weave.”

Drawn from the “interwoven and interdependent nature of our world,” the performance will feature local dancers using their own “physical language” to explore individual and embodied stories.

The Weave team brings together an international gathering of Native, feminist, queer, transgender, and people of color artists.

The project evolved from workshops and rehearsals conducted in various US cities, with the entire process open to public observation, feedback and questions.

Woven with movement, sound, projections and text by an international cast of collaborators, Weave is described as an “abstract but visceral experience.”

Weave’s premiere on the island will be held at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater on Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
