PC: Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation.

Due to an anticipated influx of travelers this holiday season, the state Department of Transportation is advising the public of limited parking spaces at airports throughout the islands.

The departmentʻs advice–get dropped off at the airport instead of driving there.

Transportation Security Administration officials are expecting a “record number of travelers” this Thanksgiving.

Last year, an estimated 20,000 passengers traveled to and from Kahului Airport. Officials say Hawaiʻi airports see about 3 to 5 percent more travelers on holidays.

Travelers who plan to park at the airport are advised to arrive early, place their parking ticket stub in a safe place that is not visible from the outside of the vehicle, and take a picture of the sign in their row as a reference to help remember their parking location.

Smart phone technology is also capable of remembering a parking location.

The maximum parking rate for a 24-hour period at Honolulu International Airport is $18. The maximum parking rate for 24 hours at neighbor island airports is $15.
