New South Maui Gym to Take Permit Applications
The county will be accepting requests from the public to use the new South Maui Community Park Gymnasium for the winter/spring 2020 season for a limited period this week.
Application requests will be accepted from 8 a.m. on Tuesday until 4 p.m. on Friday.
The limited tri-annual process is specifically for the new gymnasium facility during the Jan. 1 to April 15, 2020 session.
This process will only address requests to use the South Maui Community Park Gymnasium, and will not allow for the expansion, retraction or cancellation of any existing permits for other county parks properties.
Officials are encouraging all leagues and teams to apply if they hope to use the gym during the 2020 winter/spring 2020 season.
After the upcoming season, future applications for the gym will be accepted at the same time as the rest of the county’s facilities in the tri-annual permit process.
Applications will accepted at the main parks department permits office at the War Memorial Complex, as well as the South Maui permit office at the Kīhei Community Center.
Completed applications may also be emailed to DPRpermits@mauicounty.gov. Applications must be completed to be processed.
Any applications that are not submitted in person or via email by 4 p.m. on Friday will not be considered.
Applicants who missed the application window may submit standard permit requests for the South Maui Community Park Gymnasium on a first-come, first-served basis beginning Jan. 2, space-permitting.
Reservations for meeting rooms and special events will be accepted from Jan. 2 to April 15, up to one year in advance.
To handle the anticipated volume during the initial first-come, first-serve period for the new facility, all applications will be accepted and processed at the parks departmentʻs main permit office from Jan. 2 to 10.
Beginning Monday, Jan. 13, applications for the facility will be accepted at all permit offices countywide, for the same uses and reservation periods.
