The 2020 Sentry Tournament of Champions is planning two free youth events on the West side–a Paint and Putt art workshop on Dec. 29, 2019, and the ʻOhana Day benefit on Jan. 1, 2020.

Maui Arts League joins the tournament in hosting a free keiki “Paint and Putt” at Campbell Park on Front Street on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019. The event features snacks, golf skill games, prizes and more from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The art workshop requires registration and is available for 60 youth. Parents must register their keiki (grades 3-12) online. All art supplies were donated by Laurie Lowson from Lowson & Associates. Games and prizes are free and open to all keiki.

Teaching the outdoor still-life workshop is Darice Machel McGuire, winner of the 2019 Lahaina Town Poster Contest, and owner of Art-E Studio in Lahaina. Painting alongside the keiki will be Oʻahu fine artist and Chaminade art instructor Mark Brown, creating an original oil painting of the treasured Sentry Tournament of Champions glass blown trophy. Brown’s colorful, bold-stroke Hawaiian paintings appear on the sets of Hawaiʻi 5-0, and he won “Best in Show” at the 2019 Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational. Brown will donate his finished painting for auction at the tournament in January, to benefit Maui Charities. Parents can capture the memory of their keikiʻs painting proudly displayed next to the Sentry Trophy.

This free keiki event is sponsored by Lahaina Town Action Committee, Lowson & Associates, Sentry Tournament of Champions and Maui Arts League.

Maui Arts League is one of many local Maui charities that receive support from the PGA TOUR.  Tournament tickets will be on sale at the event, (cash or check only) and 100% of proceeds will support Maui Arts Leaguesʻs mission to engage Maui youth in fine art.

On Jan 1, 2020, another community event, ʻOhana Day, will benefit Maui youth. ʻOhana Day, sponsored by Sentry Insurance, brings local families and keiki to the Kapalua Plantation Golf Course to watch the PGA TOUR champions.

Maui schools will be competing to achieve the greatest percentage of attendance based on school enrollment data. Sentry Insurance will award $4,000 to the school complex that has the greatest attendance. Youth can help their school win by enlisting school friends and family to join in the fun.

Youth accompanied by an adult are admitted free. Parents can receive two free grounds tickets in exchange for a donation of 10 pounds of food to the Maui Food Bank. More information is available here.

The 2020 Sentry Tournament of Champions, Jan. 1-5, “For Champions Only,” honors the winners of qualifying PGA golf tournaments during the 2019 schedule. The PGA TOUR and Sentry Insurance support many Maui nonprofit organizations contributing donations totaling in excess of $6.6 million since 1999.
