Kelly King to Step Down as Council Chair

Council Chair Kelly King today made an announcement saying that she will be stepping down as Council chair. Mayor Victorino issued a statement this afternoon indicating that King said she would be succeeded by Council Member Alice Lee.

A special meeting of the Maui County Council has been set for 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 27, 2019.  Among the agenda items is “electing the council chair.”  The agenda also includes establishing the standing committees of the council and defining their duties.

Mayor Michael Victorino responded to the news saying, “I look forward to working with the new Council leadership.  We have much work to do on pressing issues such as developing attainable housing and making improvements to our infrastructure. I’m excited to work collaboratively with Council members to make progress toward our shared goals for the people of Maui County.”

He also took the opportunity to thank Chair King for her service saying, he wishes her all the best.
