Gusts Up to 50 mph Forecast Over Parts of Maui
A wind advisory remains in effect for Lānaʻi, Kahoʻolawe and portions of Maui, Oʻahu and the Big Island until 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020.
The National Weather Service says winds of at least 30 mph, or gusts of at least 50 mph, are expected.
The National Weather Service says “A strong high pressure system northeast of the state will maintain very windy trades through late this afternoon. The strongest winds will be through gaps as well as over and down-slope of ridges.”
On Maui this includes areas in and around Kahului southward through Māʻalaea Bay. On Oʻahu, this includes areas over and downslope of the Koʻolau and Waiʻanae ranges; and on Hawaiʻi Island, this includes ares over and downslope of the Kohala mountains and around South Point.
Winds this strong could down tree branches and cause localized power outages. Motorists, especially those in high profile vehicles, are urged to drive with caution.
