Ask the Mayor: Installing Speed Bumps

Mayor Michael Victorino answers some of the most-asked questions.

Q: We would like speed bumps installed on Lower Kimo Drive. People constantly speed despite it being steep and curvy. Also, lots of heavy trucks (as in semi- trailers) use it as a shortcut to get to the upper highway all day, every day. We’ve also had accidents due to speeding. This is very dangerous and takes a heavy toll on the road surface.

We get many calls/emails for speed bumps and speed tables, and I would be more than happy
to help you make a formal request.

To make a speed hump information request, click here. Make sure to fill out the form completely, with the location for the proposed speed hump, and email it to Eng.Traffic@co.maui.hi.us.

The purpose of the speed hump program is to assist neighborhoods with installations on minor
streets, which generally don’t service through traffic. I would like to remind everyone that this
ain’t the Mainland, so please slow down and practice safe driving.
