Maui Man Found Guilty of Attempted Enticement of a Minor

A federal jury today found Nolan Nishida, 37, of Wailuku, guilty of attempted enticement of a minor in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2442(b).

The charges stem from an Oct. 11, 2017 incident in which Nishida was accused of exchanging messages with an individual “whom he believed was a 14 year-old girl,” according to information presented during trial and detailed by the US Attorney’s Office in Hawaiʻi.

According to information released by the Justice Department, Nishida made arrangements to meet the girl for sex, and drove to meet up with her, but instead of meeting the girl, he was arrested.

The verdict followed a three-day trial before Senior US District Judge Susan Oki Mollway.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Maui Police Department, and was prosecuted by Assistant US Attorneys Morgan Early and Margaret Nammar.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 15, 2020.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
