Tara Dugan, digital sales director of MauiNow interviewed chef and restaurateur Bev Gannon about the current state of the restaurant business on Maui.

Bev Gannon is the owner of Gannon’s Restaurant, Hali’imaile General Store and Celebrations Maui. All her businesses are currently closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The reality is 50 to 75% of the restaurants in this country are gonna close their doors for good..they do not have the ability to reopen,” Gannon said.

Gannon’s businesses provided employment to 130 Maui residents – residents who are currently out of work.

“In the initial stage of it, I was really kind of in shock. Now, I am just trying to figure out how I can reopen,” Gannon stated.

Gannon is hopeful that she can reopen soon and keep her employees working.
