The “STEM Imagineers” of Pukalani Elementary were heading to the VEX Robotics World Championship in Louisville, Kentucky on April 24th, but due to the COVID19 virus, the competition was canceled.

Councilmember Yuki Lei Sugimura in partnership with teacher Debbie Hisashima will do a virtual showcase on Zoom with these Imagineer students to learn about their Robotics project.

“Our plan was to have these State winners honored by the County Council after the VEX World Championship. But because of COVID-19 they never got to Worlds” said Sugimura. “Since we are all shut down due to COVID-19 my staff said, let’s see their presentation on Zoom.”

The Pukalani Imagineers will present their award winning STEM research project that addresses the problem of Drunk Driving on Maui and show their Robotics project in action.

“This novel coronavirus has shut our activities but it should not deter us from taking care of the County,” shares Sugimura. “Video conferencing is a great tool and on April 19 anyone now can see these amazing Pukalani Elementary Imagineers students in action. The community is welcome to participate too.”

The STEM Imagineer of Pukalani Elementary Virtual Showcase is scheduled for Sunday, April 19, 2020 at 1 p.m via Zoom.
