Quarter Acre of Brush Burned in Pu‘unēnē Fire

A mid-day fire burned a quarter acre of brush in Puʻunēnē before being brought under control a short time later.

The fire was first reported at 11:32 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2020 on Kamaʻāina Road at the Maui Veterans “Mokulele” Highway intersection.

Maui Fire Services Chief Rylan Yatsushiro said crews were able to quickly contain the fire, which was moving rapidly due to steady tradewinds blowing at 10-15 mp in the area.

The fire was brought under control at 11:50 a.m. and was extinguished at 1:36 p.m.

Crews responding to the scene included the department’s Engine 1, Engine 6, Tanker 14, Tanker 10 and Air 1 helicopter.
