Taniloa Mailau

October 11, 1966 – December 19, 2020

Taniloa Mailau

Taniloa Mailau, 54, of Lahaina, passed away peacefully at his residence on Dec. 19, 2020. He was born Oct. 11, 1966 in Tonga.

Taniloa is survived by his wife, Leona Mailau. Mother, Ana Fakavai; Children, Viliami (Chelsea) Mailau, Sani Pousini. Brothers, Fenuki (Jeanette) Fakavai, Nasinu Fakavai, Siakumi Fakavai, Hemani Fakavai and Sasa Fakavai. Sisters, Sani Fakavai, Meleana Fakavai and Adriana (Poimana) Hussey; 6 Grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces and friends.

Private services will be held at Ballard Family Mortuary.

Richard Kaaihue

Richard Kaaihue

Richard Lei Kaaihue, 84, of Kihei and formerly of Napili, passed away on Dec. 18, 2020 at his home. He was born on March 17, 1936 in Lahaina. Richard worked as a weather technician for Maui Land and Pine.

He is survived by his niece and caretaker, JoAnn DeLima; brother, Joseph Kaaihue of Waimanalo; sisters, Louisa K. Artates of Pukalani, and Evelyn Haunani Faries of Honolulu; nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Jan Apo for his support and compassionate care of Richard. Due to COVID-19, a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Laurata Parilla

Dec. 22, 1933 – Dec. 21, 2020

Laurata Barlongo Parilla, 86 of Kahului, passed away on Dec. 21, 2020 surrounded by her family. She was born on Dec. 22, 1933 in Natividad, Pangasinan, Philippines.

Laurata retired as a teacher from Maui High School after more than 30 years of touching students’ lives.

She is survived by her husband, Guillermo Parilla; children, Melchor (Lina) Parilla, Myrna Parilla, Mario (Henie) Parilla, Merlita (Melvin) Cortez, Miriam (Fernando) Encarnacion, and Marlon (Carolina) Parilla; siblings, Meda Baliton, Ebet Reyes, Roger Barlongo, Corazon Donan, and Arthur Barlongo. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Laurata is predeceased by her parents, Julian Barlongo and Basilia Rebugio.

A public drive-thru visitation will be held at Ballard Family Mortuary on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020 from 11:30 am to 1 pm. The family would like to acknowledge Hospice Maui for their compassionate care of Laurata.
