Lawrence Carnicelli

Affordable housing advocate Lawrence Carnicelli joins Doyle and Dwayne Betsill’s family of Maui construction companies as Vice President of Development for Alaula LLC.

The newly-created company is the 100% affordable housing arm of Betsill Brothers.

“We want to build mixed-use, live/work communities that will maintain Maui’s unique character,” said Carnicelli.

Carnicelli, who is nearing the end of his five-year term on the Maui Planning Commission, has been a real estate broker on the island for 21 years.

In 2011, Carnicelli’s Hale Anuenue Affordable Housing Group negotiated a settlement in which Maui County received 53 Maui Lani lots to be used for affordable housing. Most recently, he served as Managing Director for Olowalu Elua Associates.

“Lawrence also helped write housing legislation while he served as Government Affairs Director of the Realtors Association of Maui and continues to serve on the board of Stand Up Maui, the nonprofit affordable housing advocacy organization,” said Doyle Betsill who is promoted to Alaula’s President.

Carnicelli’s term on the Maui Planning Commission, where he currently serves as chairman, ends in March. Carnicelli said he plans to address any potential conflicts with his new job saying, “if there is even a hint of conflict, I will recuse myself.”
