Police Investigate Discovery of Unresponsive Male at Polihua Beach, Lāna‘i

Maui police are investigating the death of a male in waters off of Lānaʻi.

Officers responded to the Polihua Beach area at around 7:11 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2021, regarding a “suspicious type of case.”

Upon arrival, a group of fishermen stated they had pulled an unresponsive male from the water. Police say no life-saving measures were performed as officers determined the male to be deceased.

According to department reports, a preliminary investigation shows no signs of foul play.

The victim’s identity is currently being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

An autopsy has been scheduled and the investigation is ongoing.
