The Salvation Army Hawaiian & Pacific Islands is modifying their annual Thanksgiving week holiday meals throughout Hawaiʻi due to the pandemic.

On Maui, the Salvation Army Kahului Corps and the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College will share in distributing 600 Thanksgiving meals via a drive-thru distribution starting at 11 a.m., while supplies last, at UHMC on Wednesday, Nov. 24. In West Maui, the Salvation Army Lahaina Lighthouse Corps, with the assistance of other local congregations, will be providing home delivered Thanksgiving Lunches to 300 Kupuna on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021.

On Oʻahu, the annual sit down meal service for 2,000 in Honolulu is being paused again and being replaced with community outreach events and activities via the three Salvation Army Corps across the island. Similarly, traditional Thanksgiving meals and outreach at seven neighbor island Corps on Maui, Hawaiʻi Island, and Kauaʻi also have been modified. See below for a complete list of The Salvation Army’s Thanksgiving outreach events by island.

“Once again, with the generous help of corporate partners, volunteers, advisory boards, staff and Salvation Army officers, we’ve been able to shift our traditional Thanksgiving observances around the state to reach thousands of those in need in our island communities,” said Major Phil Lum, Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army Hawaiian & Pacific Islands. “We humbly ask the community for their continued support and encourage those in need of a meal to reach out to the Salvation Army Corps in their local community.”

Monetary donations to support The Salvation Army may be made online at Hawaii.SalvationArmy.org. Additionally, from Nov. 1 through Dec. 31, customers at all Foodland and Sack N Save stores in Hawaiʻi will be able to make donations at checkout through Foodland’s “Share a Holiday Feast” program to help those less fortunate in Hawaiʻi. Customers may donate cash, coins, Maika’i points or My Rewards Certificates to help. Those donations will be turned into Foodland gift certificates and distributed by The Salvation Army to families in need on each island where the donations were received.
