Lahaina Plantation Museum to Relocate from Wharf Center to Lahaina Courthouse

Lahaina Plantation Museum, currently located on the upper level of The Wharf Center, will be relocated to the Old Lahaina Courthouse in early 2022. The public is encouraged to visit the museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday until it permanently closes at 4 p.m. on Oct. 29. Admission to the museum is free.

Theo Morrison, executive director of Lahaina Restoration Foundation said, ”We are very appreciative that The Wharf Center donated the use of the space for close to 12 years. This donation enabled us to build out the museum and operate it free of charge. Thousands of people worked in the West Maui plantations over the years and this museum told their story.”

Andy Kutsunai, who along with Bobby Kawaguichi was very instrumental in developing the museum said, “Visitors to the museum should come away with an understanding of what plantation life was like. We didn’t want it to be too much about the industry side, but more what daily life was like for the people working and living in this era.” The hundreds of artifacts in the museum were donated by families in West Maui, and the exhibit was curated by Mike Jones.
