Accreditation Team Invites Public Comment on Maui Police Department, Dec. 13

The Maui Police Department, under the direction of Interim Police Chief Dean Rickard, is an accredited agency through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The Maui Police Department is scheduled for a virtual site-based assessment as part of a program to achieve national accreditation by verifying that it meets professional standards.

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.

As part of the virtual site-based assessment, the Maui Police Department invites agency employees and members of the community to participate in a public hearing starting on Monday, Dec. 13, 2021, at 3 p.m. using this link:

There will also be a public information session to offer comments by calling 808-270-6559 on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021, between the hours of 8 and 10 a.m. CALEA Assessors will be available at that time to take your comments.

Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. Anyone wishing to review the standards may contact the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. (CALEA) via their website at https://www.calea.org/contact-us.
