New County hotline for missed trash pickups on Maui
The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management Solid Waste Division launched a new hotline so residents can learn when trash pickups are delayed and need to be rescheduled.
The missed trash pickup hotline number is 808-270-4444, and the audio recording is updated daily so county residential collection services customers can get current information.
In addition to providing information about delayed trash pickups, the hotline includes details on any Maui County landfill closures.
While the goal is to collect refuse on time and keep landfills open according to schedule, there are instances when it is not possible due to weather conditions, mechanical issues or staff shortages, said Shayne Agawa, County of Maui Department of Environmental Management director.
“We set up the new hotline to provide a simple and convenient way for people to find out when their trash pickups are being rescheduled and when landfills are closed unexpectedly,” Director Agawa said in a department news release. “We hope residential collection service customers are able to save time by getting information quickly.”
The Solid Waste Division provides residential curbside refuse pick up and disposal services in six major districts: Central Maui (including Wailuku, Kahului and South Maui), Makawao (including Kula, Pukalani, Pāʻia and Haʻikū), Lahaina (West Maui), Hāna, Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi.
Solid Waste is part of the Environmental Management Department, which also oversees the Wastewater Reclamation Division, comprising sewer services and information, and Environmental Protection and Sustainability Division, comprising abandoned vehicles, recycling and environmental programming.
