Red Cross staffing shelters for Big Island residents facing extended power outage
Two post-impact shelters are now open due to extended power outages across the Big Island in the wake of Hurricane Hone. Hawaiʻi County has opened these shelters under their guidelines and requested that the American Red Cross staff them with the purpose of serving those who have been without power since the storm’s passing over the weekend.
Shelters are located at the following sites:
HAWAII COUNTY
Keaʻau Armory at Herbert Shipman Park
16-512 Volcano Road
Keaʻau, Hi 96749
Pāhoa Neighborhood Facility at Billy Kenoi District Park
15-3022 Kauhale Street
Pāhoa, HI 96778
For those going to the shelters, they must bring any needed personal items with them. Both shelters are Wi-Fi enabled and pet friendly. Additionally, families are responsible for bringing items such as medication, hygiene products, children’s supplies, chargers for electronics and pet supplies.
