Ignite Readings approved as tutoring vendor for state schools
Ignite Reading has been selected as an approved vendor by Hawai’i’s Department of Education, a potential game-changer for students struggling with reading proficiency – a concern for 65% of fourth graders in the state.
The tutoring vendor provides students K-8 one-on-one daily instruction by trained, reading tutors online. It claims to expedite reading progress twofold to that of traditional classrooms through personalized 15-minute tutoring sessions — with no achievement gaps among student groups, including students of color, students with IEPs, multilingual learners, or students receiving free or reduced-price lunches.
With the approval, Ignite Reading can begin to partner with schools and complexes across the state immediately.
“We are excited to bring our evidence-based tutoring program to Hawai’i,” said Jessica Reid Sliwerski, CEO and founder of Ignite Reading. “Our partnership with HIDOE is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students across the state by providing them with the tools and support they need to become confident, fluent readers.”
As an approved tutoring vendor, Ignite Reading meets all critical components of high-quality tutoring as defined by the Hawai’i State Department of Education, including:
- Use of high-quality instructional materials aligned with Hawai’i Common Core Standards for English Language Arts (ELA)
- Instruction based on proven, research-based teaching methodologies
- Implementation of high-dosage tutoring practices for maximum impact
- A data-driven approach to personalize instruction and monitor student progress
