Wildland fire apparatus is the first of seven being donated to Maui Fire Department
A blessing was held over the weekend to bring into service a new wildland firefighting apparatus for the Maui Fire Department. This vehicle is the first of a total of seven new firefighting apparatus being donated to the Maui Fire Department through a collective effort by the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Fund. The initiative is supported by the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation‘s “Maui Strong Fund” as well as a contribution from Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez.
The new wildland fire apparatus will strengthen the Maui Fire Department’s ability to protect the Maui communities from future fires.
The blessing was attended by Maui Fire Department personnel, representatives of the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Fund, the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation, as well as several local dignitaries, including Maui Mayor Richard Bissen and members of the County Council.
Held on Community Wildfire Preparedness Day, the ceremony gave several speakers the opportunity to highlight the “whole community” approach that is needed to prepare for, prevent and respond to wildfire in Hawaiʻi.
