Molokaʻi man suffers critical injuries in ATV accident, flown to Oʻahu for treatment
A 78-year-old Molokaʻi man was transported via medevac to Oʻahu after suffering critical injuries in an ATV accident involving three men in the mountainous terrain above Kaunakakai.
The two other men, both 72-year-old Molokaʻi residents, sustained minor injuries.
The mountain rescue incident was reported at 12:19 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2025, and occurred two miles from the nearest paved road above Kawela.
Firefighters used utility vehicles to access the patient and begin initial treatment. Additional fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel were brought to the scene by off duty fire personnel using a Utility Task Vehicle.
The patient was evaluated at the scene by EMS and prepared for transport. Rescue 10 personnel aboard the department’sAir 1 helicopter lifted the patient from the accident scene and transported him to a landing zone at One Aliʻi Park, where he was transferred to a medevac helicopter and flown to Oʻahu.
Responding units included: Engine 4, Engine 9, and Rescue 10 personnel aboard the department’s Air 1 helicopter.
Crews left the scene at 1:56 p.m.
