West Maui keiki invited to inaugural Kā‘anapali Keiki Fishing Tournament End of Summer Bash

West Maui keiki ages 5 to 15 are invited to participate in the inaugural Kā‘anapali Keiki Fishing Tournament End of Summer Bash on Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Kā‘anapali Golf Courses Water Features.

Hosted by Pilikahakai Foundation in partnership with the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Hawaiʻi – Maui Chapter, the free community event combines a catch-and-release fishing tournament with outdoor recreation and educational activities that encourage mālama ʻāina while bringing West Maui families together to celebrate the close of summer.

“Whether it’s spending time with family or developing a deeper appreciation for our natural resources, we hope this tournament creates a memorable experience for Maui’s keiki that extends well beyond the day itself,” said Keolahou Hinau, executive director of Pilikahakai Foundation. “The opportunity to spend time outdoors and build a stronger connection to the place they call home inspires children to become the next generation of stewards who will care for the places that make West Maui so special.”

The Kā‘anapali Keiki Fishing Tournament builds on Pilikahakai Foundation’s mission to strengthen West Maui through environmental stewardship, cultural preservation and community engagement. In addition to the catch-and-release tournament, participants will enjoy prizes and family-friendly activities throughout the morning, creating a safe and welcoming environment for keiki and their families.

“One of the greatest strengths of our community is the way people come together to support our keiki and their families,” said Kalai Asuela, manager of family support services at the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Hawaiʻi – Maui Chapter. “Partnering with Pilikahakai Foundation strengthens those connections beyond our everyday programs. The tournament is made possible through the generosity of local sponsors and partners, including Maui Eldorado (Silver Sponsor), UFO Parasail, the Kā‘anapali Operations Association, Kā‘anapali Golf Course and West Maui Sports & Fishing Supply, along with co-host Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Hawaiʻi – Maui Chapter. Their support – from tournament prizes and fishing equipment to volunteer support, refreshments and family activities – is helping ensure every keiki can participate at no cost, while strengthening the relationships between West Maui’s community, organizations and businesses.
