Holomua Kākou Lānaʻi visit postponed due to forecasted severe weather

Due to the forecasted severe weather from Tropical Storm Lala, Mayor Richard Bissenʻs annual Holomua Kākou talk-story gathering and drop-in centers on Lānaʻi slated for Aug. 17-18, 2026, will be rescheduled.

Tropical storm Lala is expected to impact Maui County over the weekend, with the potential for dangerous winds, heavy rain, flooding and large waves. The decision to postpone takes into consideration potential lingering impacts following the storm, including possible disruptions to ferry service due to large surf. It also allows residents and County personnel time to assess conditions and respond to any recovery needs.

The County of Maui recognizes the importance of bringing Holomua Kākou to Lānaʻi and appreciates the community’s continued patience and understanding as the visit is rescheduled.

As part of his ongoing efforts to bring County government directly to Maui County’s rural communities each year, Mayor Richard Bissen had scheduled a community talk story on Monday night at Union Hall. Also, staff from the Office of the Mayor were scheduled to be available Monday and Tuesday to answer questions and provide assistance to residents.
