Ken Sorenson takes oath of office following senate confirmation as US Attorney for the District of Hawaiʻi

Ken Sorenson took the oath of office as the United States Attorney for the District of Hawaiʻi on Aug. 18, 2026, following his confirmation by the US Senate and the signing of his commission by the President.

Before his confirmation, United States Attorney Sorenson served as an Assistant US Attorney for 39 years, including 30 years in Hawaiʻi, leading investigations and prosecutions into notable espionage, public corruption, murder, racketeering, drug trafficking, complex fraud, terrorism, and environmental cases.

He began serving as Hawaii’s Acting United States Attorney in January 2025 and was appointed by the US District Court in March 2026 to continue to serve as Hawaiʻi’s US Attorney pending his confirmation before the US Senate.

“It was an honor and privilege to serve the people of Hawaiʻi as an Assistant US Attorney for three decades. To be selected to continue to lead the federal law enforcement community as Hawaii’s chief federal law enforcement official is a mandate and mission I embrace,” said Sorenson.

“While the Office I lead is small in numbers, we are proud of the overwhelming positive influence we exert every day to promote the safety and welfare of Hawaiʻi’s citizens by taking violent criminals, child predators, drug traffickers, fraudsters, spies, racketeers, corrupt public officials, and other criminals off of the streets. I pledge to continue to aggressively protect Hawaiʻi with the outstanding assistance of our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners and the exceptional Assistant US Attorneys and staff in my office, whose skill, dedication, and commitment to public service make our good work possible every day,” he said.
