University of Hawaiʻi Maui College student awarded scholarship in Automotive Technology

Servco Pacific Inc. has named Robbiel Lyndon Fronda of the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College a 2026 recipient of its Servco Technical Education Program (STEP) scholarship. 

The scholarship covers tuition and books, and Fronda works part-time at Servco as a paid Technician Apprentice while studying, with mentorship from Servco’s training team and funding for tools once he graduates and secures a technician job at Servco. The program reflects Servco’s investment in building a local technician pipeline on Maui. 

There were a total of six STEP scholarship recipients this year from across the state including:

• Josiah Tania, Leeward Community College 
• Justin Ryan Abad, Leeward Community College
• Bronson Okamura, Honolulu Community College
• Cyrus Medverd, Honolulu Community College
• Joshua Galiza, Kauaʻi Community College
• Robbiel Lyndon Fronda, University of Hawaiʻi Maui College

Since 1991, Servco’s Technical Education Program has partnered with local community colleges to train the next generation of automotive technicians. The program covers tuition for students pursuing their Automotive Technology degree, provides part-time paid employment at Servco as Technician Apprentices, and pairs recipients with mentorship from Servco’s technical training team.

In 2025, the program was renamed from the Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP) to STEP to reflect Servco’s support for automotive education across all three brands it represents: Toyota, Lexus, and Subaru.

“STEP is one of the most direct ways we invest in the future of our workforce,” said Lance Ichimura, senior vice president of Automotive Distribution at Servco. “As our industry evolves, developing local talent ensures Servco and Hawai’i have a strong pipeline of skilled technicians for years to come.”

All scholarship recipients will receive funding to cover tuition and books and will be employed part-time at Servco as Technician Apprentices. Upon completing their Associate’s Degree in Auto Technology and securing an Automotive Technician position at Servco, recipients will also receive funding for tools.
