Maui Chamber to host Employment Law Seminar to help businesses navigate changing labor laws

As employment laws, regulations and enforcement priorities continue to evolve, the Maui Chamber of Commerce is encouraging local employers, business owners and HR professionals to attend the 2026 Maui Labor Law Seminar on Friday, Sept. 11, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Maui Beach Hotel, presented by Torkildson Katz and sponsored by SHRM Hawaiʻi, Maui Educational Foundation.

The full-day educational seminar is designed to provide businesses with practical information and guidance to help them understand recent changes, identify potential compliance issues and ensure their workplace policies and practices are keeping pace with current requirements.

“Employment law is constantly changing, and even well-intentioned businesses can find themselves out of compliance if they aren’t keeping up with new requirements,” said Pamela Tumpap, President of the Maui Chamber of Commerce. “This seminar is an opportunity for employers to get informed, ask questions and take proactive steps to protect their businesses and their employees.”

The program will feature employment law attorneys from Torkildson Katz, covering four timely topics:

• Navigating Employee Leave: Established Requirements and Recent Updates — A practical look at leave obligations and recent developments affecting compliance with the ADA, HFLL and FMLA.
• Clocked In: Wage & Hour Updates and Pitfalls — Updates on new rules, recent cases, DOL and DLIR enforcement priorities, and common issues involving independent contractors, overtime, AI and the FLSA, and equal pay.
• From HR Complaints to the Courtroom: Strategies for Building a Winning Defense Through Internal Investigations — Strategies and compliance tools for effectively navigating internal workplace investigations.
• The New EEO Playbook: What’s Changed and What’s Next — An overview of new rules, recent cases, EEOC enforcement priorities and updated guidance related to DEI, EEO-1 reporting requirements and voluntary affirmative action plans.
• The seminar will also include continental breakfast, lunch, a copy of the 2026-2027 Chamber Desk Manual, and networking opportunities.
