UH Oʻahu campuses, Kauaʻi CC closed Tuesday due to Hurricane Lowell

All University of Hawaiʻi campuses and facilities on Oʻahu and Kauaʻi Community College will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 8, as a precautionary measure due to the possible impacts of Hurricane Lowell.

All classes, including online courses, are canceled at the affected campuses, and employees should not report to campus. Essential employees will be contacted directly if they are needed.

A Hurricane Warning remains in effect for Kauaʻi County, while Oʻahu is under a Tropical Storm Warning as Hurricane Lowell approaches the state. The storm is expected to pass the islands during the overnight hours, with strong winds, heavy rain, flooding and other hazardous conditions possible.

State and county offices on Kauaʻi and Oʻahu have also been closed for Tuesday. UH is following those closure decisions to help keep students and employees off the roads during potentially hazardous conditions.

UH leadership and emergency management teams will continue to monitor conditions and coordinate with state and county officials. Students and employees should monitor their hawaii.edu email, UH RAVE emergency alerts and official campus communication channels for updates on Wednesday operations.

Classes also canceled at Chaminade University for Tuesday

After monitoring severe weather conditions due to Hurricane Lowell, Chaminade University has canceled all classes and campus activities for Tuesday, Sept. 8. Lowell is bringing potentially destructive conditions to the state and closing the campus will help keep people off the roads and reduce unneeded travel.
